Engaging Digital Archives in the Classroom: A Conversation about the Prague Spring Collection

Dr. Mary Neuburger, Director of the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (CREEES) at UT Austin, will talk about the Prague Spring Archive, its pedagogical possibilities, and her use of the archive in her own teaching. Attendees are encouraged to join in the conversation about the future of integrating digital archives into instruction.

Benson Latin American Collection

LLILAS Benson celebrates the opening of the María Luisa Puga Papers with a lecture by Irma López, professor of Spanish at Western Michigan University and author of Historia, escritura e identidad: La novelística de María Luisa Puga. The papers of Puga, a celebrated Mexican author, were donated to the Benson Collection by her sister, Patricia Puga, in 2017.

Research as Art is a unique competition that provides a platform for researchers to convey the importance, emotion, beauty and humanity of their research. It’s different to other image competitions, as it’s the story that’s most important. The image grabs your attention, and the text reveals the process, the passion, and the humanity behind the research.

Increasingly web mapping tools are being used to crowdsource geographic information gathering. With tools such as OpenStreetMap and wikimapia participants can edit world maps to increase accuracy and add information.

Workshop @PCL: Data and Donuts: Visualizing Data with Tableau

3 to 4:30 p.m.

Do you have data that you’re not sure how to use? Creating visualizations is a good way to ask questions of your data and to share your data with others. Visualizations can include everything from a simple chart to an interactive map and can be a powerful way to tell a story about your data.
